Crispy Potato Quiche

1 24-oz. pkg frozen shredded hash browns, thawed
4 TB melted butter
2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1 cup cooked ham, diced
½ cup milk
4 eggs
¼ teaspoon seasoned salt
black pepper to taste
* optional add ins, because I found mine a bit bland*
1/2 cup diced onion [or 1 heaping TB dried flakes]-- added to the hash browns before cooking
1/2 cup diced green pepper-- added to the ham and cheese layer
1 medium tomato, diced small-- for topping just before served.

Press thawed hash browns between paper towels to remove moisture. 
Fit hash browns into greased 9x11-inch baking dish, forming a solid crust. **[I REALLY flattened mine, but would suggest just making sure they are evenly spread and not packing tightly, so they can actually crunch up while cooking. Mine made more of an "inside of a french fry" consistency and didn't get crunchy at all.
Brush crust with melted butter, making certain to brush top edges. Bake at 450ºF for 20-25 minutes--until golden brown.
Remove from oven. 
Sprinkle cheese and ham [and green pepper, and onion -if you don't want to add it to the hash brown layer] evenly over bottom of crust. Beat milk with eggs, salt and pepper. Pour evenly over all other goodies. 
Bake uncovered at 350ºF for 30-40 minutes or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean. 

I would also suggest lightly salting the hash browns before cooking. [I used a less salty [Virginia Ham] ham with mine, so base the application of this suggestion on how salty the ham is that you'll be using.]

Yield: 6-8 servings.
